Eastern Standard Time

As one half of our design duo is from Tokyo (the other in San Francisco, CA), it seemed only natural to instigate the use of traditional indigo material into our watch line. The deep blues and tonal patterns lend a rich and unique quality to the watch brands that tap into our ongoing goal to design effortless, casual watches and accessories for the every day.

TOKYObay Indigo Watch Collection

We took a peek inside the Japanese factory of our indigo printing partner, Mr. Ichikawa, to check out the glue stencil application of Japanese Edo period motifs on indigo denim.

Alongside this new indigo watch line, our signature Obi collection for men and Obi for women is woven in Japan from silk or cotton and is all about using color and intricate pattern to create global prints on both watches and bracelets. A welcome alternative to the usual plain leather or metal bands. The Obi cord was originally used by the samurai warriors to wrap sword handles and fix armor together so is not only decorative but an incredibly durable material for daily wear and tear. The original color combinations have been chosen to mix and match together across the line for an ecclectic pattern play.

Paying homage to our Eastern design roots by introducing and re working traditional materials like woven Obi cord, and most recently indigo denim, is key in creating a line that is unique and fresh. Stay posted in the next week for another round of new Spring arrivals with a USA made and Americana look, completing our East (Tokyo) and West (Bay Area, CA) inspired releases.
